The Lies We Believe

Hi Ladies,

I have come across some articles lately which have brought me to tears. The articles have been around what women say to themselves and how they are limiting their lives as a result. Like any social issue it is complex and not easily solved for, but what I do know is that change can always start with us.

According to a report commissioned by Dove, ‘a staggering 89 per cent of Australian women are opting to cancel plans, job interviews or other important engagements’, simply because of how they look that day.

The report suggests that ‘the obsession with body image is having a serious impact on how women conduct themselves in the workplace, with just 5 in 10 sticking to their opinions or decisions based on how they look that day’.

60% of young school aged girls who didn't feel beautiful would disengage from daily activity, skip school, not express an opinion or try new things. This is an entire generation not showing up for life. With the youth’s prolific use and quick access to pornography, we are seeing countless tales of girls losing their virginity without ever being kissed. They are just playthings in a fantasy world. We are yet to see how this fully plays out in that generation’s adult lives.

1 in 3 Australian women has experienced physical violence since the age of 15 and 1 in 4 Australian women have experienced emotional abuse by a current or former partner. This leaves significant emotional damage that a lot of women walk around with unresolved.

We have 7.5 billion people on this planet and it’s climbing. That means we have 3.75 billion sisters. If there was ever a time to grow and foster sisterhood it is now. We have a massive opportunity to step up and role model, speak life into people and lead wherever we walk.

We are called to be the salt of the earth and to let our light shine. The bible tells us we are fearfully and wonderfully made, a beautiful masterpiece, and that we are loved. Anything contrary to that truth is a lie.
